1. Begin by measuring the length
and height of your walls to find the square footage.
Then, add 15 percent for waste and you'll know
how many rolls of wallpaper you'll need.
2. Make sure the walls are clean
and free of any residue.
3. Chalk a line away from the corner
of the wall. This is where you'll start.
4. Cut a piece of wallpaper to the
height of the wall. Roll it from the bottom inside
out.
5. Lay the piece of wallpaper in
the wallpaper trough (figure A), which has been
filled with water.
Note: This is pre-pasted paper and only takes
a minute to wet.
6. Pull the piece out and hold it
up so the excess water drips off. You should be
holding the top edge of the piece you cut.
7. Place the wet piece against the
wall near the ceiling, and line up the outside
edge with the plumb line (figure B).
8. Use a sponge to wipe across the
paper, being careful not to shift it away from
the plumb line. Then use the plastic edger to
gently push out any air bubbles. Some glue may
press out. Just wipe that clean.
9. When you get to a corner, overlap
the edges of the two pieces, then run your wallboard
knife down the crevice (figure C). Remove the
outer piece you just cut, then the extra underlying
piece.
10. Press the edges back in place
and use the plastic edger to work air bubbles
out of the corner.
11. Take a roller and roll across
the surface to work out any bubbles or pockets.
Wipe with a sponge.
12. Continue around the whole room
and your new walls will look great for years to
come.
